Step Sister-Sister

The unbreakable bond of sisterhood isn’t always forged in blood. The unity that Vee and Ashley share is extremely close… both admit that they would lay down their lives for one another. However, they are not sisters by birth. The two women became step-sisters thirteen years ago when Vee's stepfather, the man that raised her, cheated with Ashley's mother. Ashely and Vee’s parents were together for five years. At first, the girls couldn't stand the sight of each other but then something magical happened; they became the best of friends. They realized that not only did they have so much in common, but also how much they needed each other in their lives. Vee doesn't have a close relationship with her biological sister and being able to develop that bond with Ashley was exactly what she needed in her life.

Once they became best friends, they were inseparable. They are together every day, and if they are not together they are on the phone for hours. Ashley calls Vee from the mortuary she works at while she's working on dead bodies and they even Facetime while on the toilet! They are super over protective of one another, and have zero boundaries; they have seen each other nude, sleep in the same beds, help raise each other's kids, and Vee was even present when Ashley pierced her vagina and directed the piercer where to do it! People even confuse them for gay lovers because they seem to have zero boundaries with one another. Vee and Ashley are so close that they don't really have any other friends. The times they have tried to have outsiders come around, usually ends up in chaos since they both get jealous, Ashley especially. 

The sisters have their ups and downs, arguing often but always making up. They are both loud, extremely opinionated, fun and incredibly outgoing. Vee has a domestic partner named Demetrius that she has been with for 19 years and they have 10 children together. Yes, 10! They are the biological parents of all ten children. Ashley has two boys from a previous relationship who are her pride and joy. Vee is an entrepreneur and is a stylist. She is not a fan of her sister's occupation and is freaked out by her working with dead people. At work, Ashley assists with autopsies, removes organs, dresses them, applies make-up and styles their hair. Ashley says that she thinks of them as family and cares for them immensely, she even talks to them and has had a body sit up out of nowhere! Vee sages her house after Ashley leaves so that the dead spirits can leave too!

Recently, Ashley has undergone some severe and traumatizing health issues. She developed fibroid tumors which eventually grew together to become one massive tumor. The growth was so massive it looked as though Ashley was pregnant. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor, but during the procedure the doctors had no choice but to perform a hysterectomy and remove Ashley’s uterus. Ashley had been dreaming of having more children, so the news was devastating. Vee was there for her sister the whole traumatic time. Through several conversations, Vee agreed to be the surrogate for her sister and carry the daughter Ashley has always wanted. The ladies have already discussed the surrogacy and went to a IVF clinic to learn about the options. Ashley's boyfriend Terrence has agreed to be the child's father. It’s a major step in their sisterly relationship that will bring them even one step closer. If that’s even possible!

In life, Vee has taken the role of big sister very seriously, often giving Ashley advice. Especially when it comes to relationships. Ashley’s relationships ebb and flow, and Vee knows that Ashley has a good thing going with Terrence, if she’s doesn’t mess it up. What Ashley is keeping secret is that she is having an affair with the funeral director at the funeral home where she works. To complicate matter further, the funeral director that she is sleeping with, has now also promised to promote Ashley as soon as she gets her certification in six months. This is a messy situation that Ashley needs to navigate carefully as either her relationship with Terrence or her career could be in jeopardy.

These sisters are proving that even if you aren't blood relatives, you can still share a close, sibling bond. They would like to change the narrative of what a step-sister relationship looks like and show how much they truly care for each other. Even with all the fussing and fighting, the love they share is admirable and to some extent, maybe even a little weird to others. The two of them combined are sheer entertainment! Between twelve kids, personal entanglements, a potential surrogacy pregnancy and fascinating careers, these sisters are nothing less than extreme.
