The Twisted Sisters

It’s true: Trish and Jenny, really are better described as sisters, than “sisters in-law.” They are that close! Not only do they frequently move in together, but they also downloaded a special app just to message each other in private. They hate being a part. However, it didn’t start out as a lovefest: Jenny assumed Trish was a bimbo who was going to break her brother’s heart. But when the two were pregnant at the same time and carried babies together, their bond truly solidified. Trish admits that Jenny is her “Soul mate” much more than her own husband ever is or ever would be…

This crazy duo think nothing of getting naked in front of one another. They have all out conversations while the other is on the toilet. They go to each other for advice on everything, even if it’s TMI or about Trish and Jenny’s brother’s sex life. No one invites the duo to anything separately because they are ALWAYS together. It goes without saying that they are a package deal. They can read each other’s minds. People always tell them how weird their relationship is.

Calgary is known for sporadic, intense, and dramatic storms and tornados, so the girls love to go storm chasing in a moment’s notice. They call themselves the “Twisted Sisters,” in homage to the tornados they frequently chase. They’re planning to get matching twisted sisters tornado tattoos in the near future… Not a single day goes by where they don’t talk. If that happens, they will automatically assume the other person is dead. Jenny has shown up at Trish’s house because she went a day without hearing form her sister in-law.

Speaking of unusual situations, Trish and Nathan are not the only “inter-family” relationship in the family. Jenny and Trish’s parents are also dating! Over a decade ago Trish lost her mother, and as life would have it, Jenny also lost her father. Meaning, both Trish and Jenny’s parent’s are widowers. It didn’t take long for Trish’s father (Gary) to put the moves on Laurie (Jenny’s mom) at a New Year’s Eve party.

The happy couple has been dating and living together ever since! Oh, they also live with Jenny and her daughter! Most people wonder what it’s like for Trish and her sister in-law to have their respective parents dating? Well, it’s unusual, but again: this family chose this! Trish also has a special place in her heart for Laurie, because she lost her own mother, Laurie has stepped up to play the maternal (albeit mother in-law) relationship in Trish’s life.

Trish has four children: Zack (17) Jessica (15) Landon (10) Logan (5) and Haylah (3). The youngest child is from Nathan and the other children are from a previous relationship. All her children, except for Jessica, live with Trish and Nathan. Jenny has a daughter named Alexza who is ten years old. The two children are more like siblings than cousins. Raising children is a major aspect of both women’s lives that they do together. When the children have summer break or holidays off, Trish simply packs up her entire family and moves in with Jenny! She’s over there all the time anyways, what’s the harm in moving in!? Often it feels like they are the married couple, helping to raise one another’s children. Nathan is excluded from plans and decisions regarding how the children are raised, or what the children are doing. Instead, it’s Jenny helping in the role as “the other parent.” They work so well together; they couldn’t think of a better way to raise their family… much to dismay of Nathan who is often looked over.

Jenny sadly lost her husband ten years ago. It was a terrible tragedy for the family, but especially so for Jenny. Trish helped Jenny navigate the emotional and challenging time in her life and continues to do so. Jenny has a ten-year-old daughter, and although it’s tough to date as a single mother, she’s ready to put herself out there. Trish absolutely thinks that Jenny is ready to date again and meet the man of her dreams. However, both Jenny and Trish know that it’s going to take a very special guy to accept their “too close for comfort sister in-law bond.”  

Trish and Nate’s relationship is tumultuous. They certainly don’t always see eye to eye, and they will often argue. Trish has wondered if their relationship will truly last. She has admitted that she would still keep Jenny in her life if she was to break up with Nathan. Trish has been a stay-at-home mom for years but she’s interested in rejoining the work force and find a career. She just doesn’t know what she wants to do. Jenny is ready to start dating, but after so many years out of the dating scene, she’s insecure about being a single mother and putting herself out there. However, with Trish’s guidance and support she’s willing to give it a chance!
