Three’s Company
Keeyawna, Kiesha, and Kalea – the Turner Sisters – or, “K to the 3rd” as they proudly call themselves, are a beyond close-knit trio of sisters who all reside in Atlanta, Georgia. They have been extremely close since birth, aided by the fact that they were all born with just about one year difference between them, which created a level of intimacy rarely achieved by any group of siblings. Raised by their eccentric, Reiki-healer mother, MiMi, the girls were dressed in the same outfits and have worn the same hairstyle since they were toddlers. Now, 35+ years later, they can’t help but continue that tradition, while taking it up a notch, from working together in a myriad of different businesses, to comfortably spending quality time with each other completely in the nude, to sharing their own children with each other (one mom can be a handful, but three moms?!), sometimes the Turner Sisters take for granted just how unique and over the top their relationship is. To them, it’s all they’ve ever known.
Keeyawna, the oldest sister, is the defacto, “mother” of the three. She is slightly more reserved than next-in-line Kiesha, and a lot more reserved than the trio’s youngest, Kalea. When the girls were in their mid-teens, their mother gave birth to a baby boy, Cameron, who was born with down syndrome. The girls immediately became three mama bears to their new baby brother and have applied this same motherly love to every person in their family. As with any extremely close sibling relationship, not everything has always been peaches and roses for the Turner Sisters. Kiesha and Kalea have been known to go at each other like cats and dogs, mostly sparked by what both Keeyawna and Kiesha consider to be Kalea’s “quick temper.” The sisters contend that Kiesha creates the most drama! Her feelings get hurt if the other two sisters do anything without her. Her mouth is utterly unfiltered so she invariably offends everyone, despite not realizing she is doing anything wrong. It’s not uncommon for her to get kicked out of the house for her bad attitude and offensive accusations. When Keeyawna and Kalea confront her, she gets upset and offensive and feels attacked. She then cries to their mother about the unfairness of it all. After a day or two of drama, the dust will settle and the three find their way back together.
The Turner Sisters’ lives are intertwined in just about every possible way. They raise children together: Keeyawna is married and has six kids, Kalea is married and has two, Kiesha is currently single and without children, but has no problem mothering her nieces and nephews. They even planned pregnancies so they could be pregnant at the same time. They live directly across the street from each other: Kiesha moved in with Kalea and her kids, while Kalea’s husband, Jamie, travels back and forth between Georgia and California for work. The sisters work together daily: Keeyawna runs a wedding planning business, which both Kiesha and Kalea help with. Kiesha is her wedding assistant and lady in waiting, as well as an expert medical esthetician. If one of her sisters needs a last-minute chemical peel, Kiesha is ready in the wings. Kalea is a hair and wellness stylist, and she brings her holistic expertise to not only make her sister’s hair beautiful, but also keep it healthy long-term. When the sisters are not together, it does not take long before they start calling each other on the phone. If Kalea cannot get ahold of either of her sisters, she immediately checks their location using the friend-tracking app they all have loaded on their phones. This frantic search can start after simply noticing one of the sisters’ cars are not in the driveway. They know each other so well, both spiritually and physically, that Kaesha is able to go clothes shopping for both of her sisters. She knows what they like, and she knows what will fit them. Usually, if she finds a piece for one of her sisters, she will pick up two of the exact same, or very close, additional pieces just to make sure they can all match with each other.
MiMi, the matriarch of the family, is an eccentric and lovable Moon Reiki Healer and Yoni Steam Practitioner. She is the first to admit that, while her daughters may appear dysfunctional to outsiders and are perhaps TOO close for comfort, she knows that their relationship is a direct reflection of the way that she raised them. She has accepted that she and the rest of her family must be open to the sisters’ extremes. There is really no choice, when you have one Turner Sister in your life, you have all three Turner Sisters in your life. According to MiMi, when it comes to accepting familial eccentricities, Jamie (Kalea’s husband) and Damien (Keeyawna’s husband) have had to adjust the most. Jamie has known Kalea for over 15 years, so at this point, he has grown as used to the trio’s dynamics as he probably ever will, but Keeyawna’s husband is still acclimating. Jamie might have a bit of an advantage in this department, as he travels back and forth between Georgia and California, where he works as a private trainer and operates an organization that helps at-risk youths. Keeyawna’s husband is not so lucky, but at least he only lives with one of the sisters and not two!
The Turner Sisters are looking forward to numerous life events on the horizon. Keeyawna has multiple large weddings that she and her sister will be planning and producing. Kaesha is in the process of opening her own skincare business. Kalea is continuing to build her hair and body wellness business. They are planning a trip to New Orleans in November to celebrate MiMi and Kalea’s birthdays (Kalea shares a birthday with her mother, and Kaesha’s birthday is just three days prior). The Turner Sisters are also contemplating their second matching tattoo. Their first was an homage to their grandmother, and they are still figuring out what they want out of the next inking. Finally, Kaelea and Kaesha are planning to have their boobs lifted together, and are trying to convince Keeyawna to join them in the procedure. For The Turner Sisters, the future is bright and hectic and fun and wild and loud and unpredictable, and because they are doing it all together, they wouldn’t have it any other way.
