Stump McDowell was born to design and build amazing grills and smokers, and he has done it his entire life. “Stump,” as he’s affectionately known was born and raised on a farm and learned to build and cook out of necessity. They didn’t have a lot of money so anything he needed he had to make with his own hands. He’s translated that simple, honest, ingenuity into a career. Today, his smoker company is considered one of the most successful in the world. He’s built massive rigs with all the bells and whistles, (including TV’s!) and he’s built small, tail-gating cookers, but it all goes back to his savant-level knowledge of how to build incredible cookers. He loves to prove people wrong, and sometimes invites a naysayer into the fold so that he can show them just how right he always is. Don’t let his accent or his goofy nickname fool you. Stump isn’t a simple or slow, quite the opposite. Stump is smart, hardworking and extremely experienced in what he does. Stump has lived and breathed BBQ for years, refining his process over time. He has detailed, hand written notes on cooking temperatures, cooking times, weights of meats, all in the name of creating BBQ perfection.
