The Sparkl Palace
Homeowner: Gabrielle “Gabi” Iwalani Hall
Occupation: Fashion designer/owner Sparkl Fairy Couture
Home Location: Koreatown/Los Angeles
Even when Gabrielle Hall was a little girl she was already cutting up, sewing and creating new clothing and fantastical creations for her Barbies at 9 years old. Raised on the islands of Kauai and Maui she dreamed, wrote, created and imagined life beyond the sea. Determined to pursue her future in fashion she made the move to Los Angeles where she attended FIDM at seventeen. Her eager pursuit for knowledge, experience and growth landed her a job at Revelry Event Designers the best event design company in LA. From there she founded her own company, Sparkl Fairy Couture, which Gabi feels is the greatest manifestation of her true self. Her motto is “Transforming the Ordinary into something Extraordinary.” She wanted her home and home office to be a place of magic and fun. The result was her “Sparkl Palace.” It’s her everyday living space, but she also works there and hosts clients regularly. Her style is the essence of “sparkly.” It’s shiny, iridescent, ethereal and whimsical. She’s inspired by mermaids and fairies, and the sparkle magic that they inspire. Her home is the manifestation of everything Sparkly and she wouldn’t live any other way.
Gabi’s favorite feature is her silver-wrapped piano. It’s been the highlight of many a photo shoot, get together, and it’s a conversation piece for any new guest. The best part is she fabricated the sparkle elements herself, transforming an ordinary piano intso a holographic instrument.
The bathroom is a Mermaid theme, which is also central to the Sparkl Fairy Couture aesthetic. Since Gabi hosts clients at her home, she doesn’t want the style and feel to be broken just when somebody needs to freshen up. Oh, there’s also neon lighting in the bathroom as well
The iridescent design is featured on furniture in each room. So while her workspace is very pink and front room is very white there are threads that tie the whole place together.
This is the third incarnation of the Sparkl Palace (the second one being an open floor plan closer to downtown), and she’s managed to keep some of the elements present, while giving each version its own life. The giant lettering in each of the rooms has transitioned from each previous Palace.
