After 26 years of marriage, multiple military moves, and raising three kids, Scott and Katy are ready to focus on something they haven't had much time for: themselves. The two met while serving in the Navy as hospital corpsmen (an enlisted medical specialist in the United States Navy who serves as the primary medical provider for Sailors and Marines) training alongside the Marines. Katy was technically Scott's boss at the time, which Scott will tell you only made the challenge more interesting. One strategically tilted uniform hat and a little persistence later, a friendship turned into a relationship. More than two decades later, they're still making each other laugh and keeping score in an ongoing competition to see who can get the last word.
Now living in Charlotte with an empty nest, Scott and Katy have realized that somewhere between raising kids, coaching sports, and building careers in healthcare, they got very good at taking care of everyone else and not so great at making time for themselves. A recent health scare was a wake up call that life is too short to keep putting their own plans on hold.
That's what brought them to Oak Island. They have only visited once, but it was enough. The relaxed pace, friendly community, and easygoing beach lifestyle checked a lot of boxes. Scott's dream is pretty straightforward: a golf cart, good weather, and a short ride to the beach. Katy is looking forward to morning coffee on a porch, spending time near the water, and finally enjoying hobbies like kayaking, biking, and swimming without dealing with crowds and traffic.
They're hoping to find a three bedroom home with an open layout, lots of natural light, and enough space for family and friends to visit. A screened porch and outdoor shower are high on the wish list, oh and of course being near the water! More than anything, they're looking for a place where future holidays, family gatherings, and someday grandkids can create the kind of memories that keep people coming back year after year.
