Scott Lindsley and Joey Hewell, known together as “The Linwells,” are a husband-and-husband real estate and design duo with a shared obsession: the weirder, more challenging and complicated the property, the better. Based in Charlotte, they’ve built their reputation on tackling the listings most agents avoid, from stigmatized homes to homes in less than ideal locations, and turning them into must-see opportunities. With more than three decades of real estate experience, a career that began in appraisal and evolved into high-level brokerage, and standout projects featured in outlets like Condé Nast, Scott and Joey have become known for their ability to reframe the narrative and sell what others consider unsellable.

Together for over two decades, Scott and Joey bring complementary skill sets that make them uniquely effective. Scott, a Charlotte native, began his career as an appraiser, quickly becoming the go-to expert for valuing the most difficult and unconventional properties. That foundation shaped his approach to real estate today, where he’s known for strategically pricing and positioning homes others struggle to understand. Joey, by contrast, comes from a highly creative background, having owned a successful salon catering to high-profile and on-air clients while simultaneously building a career in design. He now serves as the design force behind their business, helping transform and reimagine properties so they connect with buyers. Today, Scott runs the brokerage side of the business while Joey leads design, staging, and renovation, together serving the Charlotte market with a seamless, full-spectrum approach.

Over the years, Scott has built a portfolio filled with properties that most agents wouldn’t touch. One standout example is a home located directly beside elevated railroad tracks… a major deterrent for buyers. Rather than ignoring the issue, Scott leaned into it strategically, pricing the home to reflect the challenge while emphasizing its standout features, including a stunning third-floor primary suite and prime location near Charlotte’s arts district. To further ease buyer concerns, he even created video content showing exactly what the train experience was like in real time. The result: a successful sale in a market where perception could have easily killed the deal.

In another case, Scott and Joey tackled an extreme hoarder home in a historic neighborhood, so overgrown and cluttered it had become the subject of local rumors. The challenge wasn’t just condition, but getting buyers to see past it. Their approach was twofold: carefully curated marketing that highlighted the home’s original architectural beauty while minimizing visual distractions, and highly controlled showings that allowed Scott to personally prepare agents and buyers for what they’d encounter. By reframing the experience and focusing on potential, they were able to attract serious buyers who could see beyond the chaos.

In one of their most unusual scenarios, Scott handled a multi-unit property complicated by the presence of a pauper’s graveyard on site. A pauper’s graveyard is a burial ground for individuals who died in extreme poverty, were unclaimed by family, or were unknown. It was an immediate barrier for most buyers. Instead of avoiding the issue, he repositioned it as an opportunity. By targeting the right investor and reframing the stigma as leverage for pricing, he was able to secure a deal below market value, turning what scared others away into a strategic advantage for his client.

At the core of their success is a highly intentional, collaborative process. Every listing begins with one central question: who is the right buyer for this specific property? From there, Scott and Joey “spin the story,” crafting a narrative that leads with the home’s strongest features while thoughtfully addressing its challenges. Their strategy often includes curated showings, direct conversations with buyers and agents, and tailored marketing that speaks to a very specific audience. When needed, Joey steps in to rework layouts, stage the home, or guide renovations or upgrades, ensuring the property not only shows better, but lives better.

Outside of real estate, Scott and Joey are as dynamic as they are on the job. Married for over 20 years and rarely spending time apart, they are true partners in every sense: living, working, and creating side by side. Scott is known for his calm, grounded presence and ability to steady even the most stressful situations, while Joey brings bold creativity, emotional intuition, and fearless design instincts. Together, they balance each other perfectly, combining logic and imagination, strategy and artistry to take on challenges most would never dare to attempt.
