The love story between Sandy and her husband, Leslie, seems like something out of a fairytale. The two have known each other since they were babies in Jamaica, where their family homes shared a backyard. Leslie, who is older, fondly recalls the day Sandy was brought home from the hospital. They grew up as friends and neighbors, and it was always evident to Sandy that Leslie harbored a crush on her. However, when they were teenagers, life took them in different directions—Leslie moved to New York, and Sandy relocated to Canada with her family, losing touch for many years.

In 2016, Leslie tracked Sandy down. Recently divorced, he reached out to reconnect and confessed that he had never stopped thinking about her. Sandy was swept off her feet and agreed to get to know him again. However, the next four years were tumultuous. Leslie’s mother fell seriously ill, and her passing was an extremely difficult time for him. Their communication became sporadic, and eventually, they drifted apart.

For three years, there was no contact. Then, in 2021, Leslie reached out to Sandy again. This time, things were different. They rekindled their friendship, and their bond grew stronger than ever. Later that year, Leslie confessed his love and expressed his desire to spend the rest of his life with her. She had three sons from previous relationships and yearned for a real, honest, and long-term partnership. The fact that Leslie was someone she had known since childhood gave her comfort. In August 2022, they married, vowing to love each other for better or worse.

At the time, Leslie was working for a major company that owned brands like Kate Spade and Coach as a computer technician. However, when the pandemic hit, he lost his job, fell ill, and never returned to work. Sandy isn’t sure what he is doing now. Sandy was a social worker and a part-time Zumba instructor which she continues to do to this day.

Despite their marriage, Sandy and Leslie maintained a long-distance relationship—Leslie lived in New York, while Sandy remained in Toronto with her job and her youngest son. They never lived together but were in the process of applying for Sandy’s Green Card to facilitate her move to the United States. Sandy often traveled to visit Leslie but couldn’t stay long due to her responsibilities as a mother back in Canada. Plans for her to join him became even more complicated when Leslie underwent an emergency quadruple-bypass surgery at the end of 2022. His recovery required him to stay with family in Long Island, further straining their relationship despite Sandy’s frequent visits.

Compounding the stress, Sandy learned that Leslie’s family had been speaking poorly of their relationship, questioning her motives. Leslie began to grow distant, ignoring her calls and becoming colder during their virtual interactions. In February 2024, Sandy surprised him with a visit. Although they had a wonderful time together, things changed after she returned home—Leslie stopped communicating entirely, eventually blocking her number. That visit turned out to be the last time Sandy saw or heard from him.

Initially heartbroken and confused, Sandy struggled to understand Leslie’s abrupt disappearance. After all, he had been the one who pursued her. Why would he now be the one to walk away? She reached out to his family for answers, but they refused to help, claiming it was "none of their business." As Sandy began to recover from the initial shock, she started digging deeper into Leslie’s past and uncovered surprising details.

When they first reunited, Leslie had mentioned a lawsuit involving the nursing home where his mother passed away. While Sandy had asked for more information, Leslie told her he couldn’t discuss it, even though they were married. Sandy respected his privacy and didn’t press further. However, after his disappearance, she discovered that the lawsuit had been worth millions of dollars. She now suspects that Leslie may have settled out of court and concealed the settlement to keep the money for himself. This could explain his sudden departure—Sandy believes he may have been waiting for the settlement to leave New York and disappear altogether.

Adding to her suspicions, Leslie had previously admitted to dating the head nurse at his mother’s nursing home. He told her this when they first got back together. At the time, Sandy didn’t think much of it. However, during their marriage, Leslie occasionally messaged and texted this nurse, which raised red flags. When Sandy confronted him, Leslie claimed the communication was strictly about the lawsuit, as the nurse had information that could help his case. While Sandy accepted this explanation at the time, she now wonders if there was more to their relationship. It’s possible the two had an agreement: if the nurse provided insider information to help Leslie win his case, she might receive a portion of the settlement.

Despite these troubling revelations, Sandy’s primary motivation isn’t financial. What she craves most is emotional closure so she can move on with her life. She feels there’s more to Leslie’s story and hopes to find him to truly understand who he is and why he left so abruptly. Knowing that Leslie has children from a previous marriage whom he doesn’t speak to, Sandy suspects he has a pattern of abandoning loved ones. She fears he might hurt someone else the way he hurt her and wants to prevent others from experiencing the same pain.

Lastly, during their marriage, Leslie would occasionally share a cryptic message with her, “I’ve told you everything about myself, except for one thing.” When she pressed he wouldn’t say anything further. To this day Sandy still has no clues to the context or the explanation for this mysterious and ominous confession. It’s baffling and confusing, and looking back now should have been a red-flag.

As for her feelings toward Leslie, Sandy admits she still loves him. If confronted, would she take him back? It would take more than just an apology. Leslie would need to undergo counseling and make amends for the grief and betrayal he caused. Only then could Sandy even consider reconciliation. But for now, her priority is closing this chapter of her life. Once she finalizes their divorce and regains her emotional footing, she hopes to find love again. She remains optimistic about the future and believes in her ability to move forward, leaving her painful past behind.
