Disappeared: August 2023

Relationship Background / Love Story

  • Hollie met Peter in September 2020 on Twitter, during the height of the pandemic. He lived in San Francisco, she was in Tahoe, and what began as casual online interaction quickly turned into constant, day-and-night conversations.

  • For months, they talked on the phone endlessly before ever meeting in person. Hollie describes feeling deeply seen and emotionally connected long before they shared physical space.

  • Hollie had children from a previous relationship and wanted someone who would be a positive role model in their lives.

  • When they finally met in person in January 2021, Peter traveled to Tahoe, met her children, and stayed nearby. The transition from virtual to real life felt seamless and intense, like a relationship already fully formed.

  • Peter swept Hollie off her feet quickly. Within a couple weeks he decided to move in with her in Tahoe.

  • He proposed within months, even admitting he had purchased the ring before they ever met in person.

  • They married in Maui in June 2021 in an intimate destination wedding that felt romantic, hopeful, and full of promise.

  • Hollie believed she had found a true partner, someone who embraced her children, shared her values, and wanted a stable family life after years of hardship.

Marriage & Family Life

  • Together, Hollie and Peter started building what she believed was a solid, loving household.

  • They attended church regularly, spent Sundays together as a family, and took trips that reinforced the feeling of unity and security.

  • Peter positioned himself as a provider and protector, and Hollie trusted him fully, emotionally and financially.

  • Over time, Hollie became a stay-at-home mother while Peter handled the finances. He worked as a window salesman. Her name was not on the bank accounts.

  • Despite the responsibilities of raising four children, Hollie believed their marriage was stable. She says they did not argue and had no major conflicts leading up to his disappearance.

The Move & Mounting Pressure

  • In January 2023, the family relocated to San Luis Obispo after Peter accepted a new sales job on the Central Coast.

  • The move uprooted Hollie and her children from their support system, but she trusted Peter’s assurances that this was a fresh start.

  • Financial pressure increased. Peter was responsible for a high monthly mortgage and household expenses.

  • The family was in transition, navigating new schools, new jobs and a new location.

Disappearance

  • On the night of August 16, 2023, everything appeared normal. Peter kissed Hollie on the forehead, told her he loved her, and went to bed like any other night.

  • When Hollie woke in the early morning hours, he was gone. His car was missing. He had not left a note.

  • She initially assumed he had an early appointment and texted him.

  • Later that day, Peter responded that he had stayed at a coworker’s house after having a “bad feeling” and accused Hollie of cheating, something she says had never been an issue in their marriage. That was the last direct communication she ever had with him.

Immediate Aftermath

  • Peter left behind all of his belongings, including clothing, personal items, and even his cat, Fred.

  • Peter blocked Hollie and her children on all forms of communication.

  • Hollie was left with approximately $200, no access to shared finances, and no warning.

  • Facing eviction, she contacted homeless shelters and sought emergency assistance to keep her children housed.

  • The abandonment occurred just days before her children were scheduled to return to school.

  • For the first two months, Hollie tried desperately to locate Peter, calling his employer, reaching out to family, and searching for answers.

  • Eventually she gave up, feeling ashamed of trying to find someone who obviously didn’t want anything to do with her.

Emotional & Family Impact

  • Hollie describes the experience as a death without closure, one that fundamentally changed who she is.

  • She suffered severe physical stress reactions, including months of nausea and weight loss.

  • Her youngest son developed intense separation anxiety, fearing Hollie would disappear just as his stepfather had.

  • Hollie withdrew socially, struggling with shame and self-blame, questioning how someone she trusted so deeply could vanish without explanation.

Rebuilding

  • Despite the devastation, Hollie rebuilt her life from scratch. She enrolled in school, earning a full-ride opportunity to Cal Poly while working as a tutor and researcher at Cuesta College.

  • Hollie describes her current home as peaceful and grounded, focused entirely on her children and their healing.

Why She Needs to Face This Now

  • Hollie is still legally married to a man who vanished without explanation, accountability, or closure.

  • She needs to finalize the divorce, untangle the legal and financial ties, and fully close this chapter.

  • She says, “I survived something that should have broken me. I don’t need him back, but I deserve to understand what really happened.

  • For Hollie, this journey is about closure, dignity, and showing her children that abandonment does not define their worth.
