Love Story/Background
Crystal was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. After marrying her first husband in Louisiana, the two welcomed a daughter together. Following their divorce, Crystal moved to Macon, Georgia, determined to start fresh and rebuild her life.
In late 2017, she joined a dating site looking for light companionship, not another marriage. She met Michael who had a kind smile, “boy-next-door” energy. He was polite and eager to please.
He was the first man in years to make her feel adored. He called her his “Beyoncé” and seemed to worship her. Despite her hesitation, Crystal let her guard down and fell deeply in love.
Their connection accelerated quickly. They got engaged right before COVID, and in September 2020, during the pandemic, they married in a small backyard ceremony.
After the wedding, life felt stable on the surface. Crystal was finishing her second degree and working toward opening a food truck business. Michael managed a laundromat.
Disappearance
February 2022: Michael drove Crystal to the airport for a short trip. She was planning to visit a friend for a girl’s weekend. He kissed her goodbye, told her to “have a great time,” and even checked in when she landed.
That night, she noticed through security camera notifications that he hadn’t come home: something completely out of character.
She panicked and immediately tried to get in touch with him. After hours of unanswered calls, he finally picked up around 5 a.m. His voice was flat, almost unrecognizable. “I’m fine. I gotta work,” he said, and hung up.
Crystal cut her trip short, flew back home, and went straight to his job. They had a brief conversation, but there were no answers or explanation of why he didn’t come home.
They agreed that when he came home from work that evening that they would discuss the incident. He never came home.
That was the last time she ever saw him. No fight. No warning. No goodbye.
Aftermath
Crystal was not able to get ahold of him. She didn’t know where he was staying. He wasn’t answering his phone or email. After a point, she realized that he was gone for good.
After a year, Michael’s brother reached out to Crystal asking where he was. Even his own family appears to not know where he is.
Michael left personal belongings when he disappeared, amongst them various paperwork including his birth certificate.
Crystal discovered that Michael had been spelling his name differently from what was printed on his birth certificate. She thinks that it is on purpose but doesn’t understand why he would do that.
The birthday she celebrated with him every year was nine days before his actual birth date, as listed on his birth certificate. She thinks that there is no error here, and that he is hiding something.
He claimed to be from Chicago, but Crystal later discovered he was from a small town in Georgia.
She continued to discover other lies and inconsistencies, including that he lied about a child that he claimed belonged to him, but was not his child.
During their relationship he lied about his mother’s death. She eventually discovered the truth that he was alive.
When Crystal once visited his mother’s home, she noticed every family photo displayed proudly, except none featured Michael.
Moving Forward
Crystal has been left legally married, financially disrupted, and emotionally shaken.
She wants to get a divorce and learn the truth about the man she married. What are the real answers behind the deception? Was he lying about other parts of their life and marriage together?
She suspects he may still be in the Macon area, working locally under the radar, and possibly creating new versions of himself for someone else.
The abandonment has left deep scars. She never wanted to get married again, for fear of getting hurt again. The worst-case scenario has happened.
Once confident and outgoing, she now struggles with anxiety, distrust, and isolation.
