Twin telepathy gets taken to new heights when it comes to Jessica and Jerrika. Why? Because their mother, Nancy, is essentially the third leg in their tripod. They call her their triplet and if you spend even five minutes with them, you’d understand why. Born and bred in Western Massachusetts, they are about as quintessentially New England as a Patriots win or a cold Sam Adams.
The bond between the three women is even stronger than Nancy’s Boston accent. Jerrika, Jessica and Nancy do everything together! Not only are the twin daughters very close, they are extremely close with their mother, which creates an unusual dynamic. Mom has to be careful how she behaves to one daughter over the other. She loves them both equally but that also comes with the burden to treat them both equally, or else jealously and sibling rivalry ensues.
Their bond is very close. They go out together, they shop together, they plan trips together and carve out Friday night dates with each other. They call these evenings their girls nights and tend to leave their boyfriends out of it, even if it drives them crazy. The women talk about their sex lives, their relationships, their bodies and more. Simply put, there’s no boundaries. As Jerrika recently gave birth to a baby girl, she’s been breastfeeding and even challenged her mother and twin sister to try her breast milk. They did, of course. “It’s sweet,” Nancy admits.
Habits formed decades ago transcend and take shape in their current day lives. When the three women are together and one of them goes to shower, the other two sit in the bathroom to gossip and sing along until the shower’s completed.
The three women lived together under one roof until about a year ago when Jerrika had a baby girl named Madelynn with her boyfriend Andrew, and Jessica bought a house with her boyfriend Dillon… which happens to be right next door to Nancy. Moving in next door wasn’t entirely planned and wasn’t something Dillon was keen on. He’s not thrilled by the situation but he’s begrudgingly going along with it. Jerrika, on the other hand, happens to be twenty minutes away from Jessica and her mother and it’s secretly killing her. She feels like she’s missing out on not just her relationship with her TWIN but also with her MOM.
Though Nancy and her twin daughters have their Friday night gatherings and spend hours on FaceTime together each night, Jerrika secretly feels that Jessica and her mother are growing closer while she slowly gets pushed out. The fact that Jerrika lives twenty minutes away, in an area her mother refers to as “the woods” presents an obvious challenge as her sister Jessica and her boyfriend Dillon reside next door. But for Andrew, Jerrika’s boyfriend, this is the perfect situation!
Andrew says he chose that location pragmatically as he desperately needs space from Jerrika’s mom and sister. Their bond can be overwhelming for him as it is for Dillon but right now Dillon bears the brunt of it, due to proximity. Nancy stops by Dillon & Jessica’s house multiple times a day, often uninvited, and uses their pool, TV and kitchen. According to Dillon, she’ll come by to have a 40 minute conversation about something that simply “could’ve been a text.” She spends hours laughing and relaxing with Jessica and Dillon while barely visiting Jerrika and her 9-month-old girl Madelynn.
But Andrew’s sense of solace might be short-lived. The building Nancy currently lives in is up for sale and there’s a big chance she will have to move out. While at first, Dillon and Andrew thought this might mean she’d find her own place, they quickly learned that if the building sells, Nancy’s moving in with one of them! Both boyfriends dread the idea while Jessica and Jerrika are quietly duking it out, as they both would like nothing more than to have their mother step in as a third roommate.
Right now, Jerrika feels left out and fears that as time goes on, Nancy and Jessica will grow closer and all but forget about her. Jessica and Nancy seem oblivious to Jerrika’s feelings and continue to indulge on their own-mother daughter time living next door to each other.
Only time will tell where Nancy will land but each of the twins have their own persuasive argument to make. For Jerrika, it’s an obvious choice: she has a baby and could use the help around the house. She’d also love for her baby to get to be as close to Nancy as she and her twin sister are. However, given the nature of Nancy and Jessica’s already strengthening relationship, Jerrika’s hopes are far from guaranteed.
