The Moroccan Oasis
Homeowner: Tim Meisner
Occupation: Entrepreneur/Manufacturer
Home Location: West Hollywood
Tim is a well-established entrepreneur and manufacturer who works in the cannabis industry. Tim’s passion for interesting and beautiful homes began when he was growing up and his mother would take him to palatial mansions being built and walk him through for fun. His unique style has continued to flourish over the years after giving up his “suit and tie” job working for his successful family business. His hair grew along with his love for the Burning Man culture and lifestyle. Riding horses and racing motorcycles are some of Tim’s favorite hobbies.
After going through a difficult period and deciding to move, he was made aware of what was originally a Synagogue being listed for sale. On first sight impression he felt completely transported out of Los Angeles and knew he had to have it. The home has an over-the-top gilded kitchen, a master bedroom that doubles as a ballroom with two golden dancing polls, floor to ceiling tile-work, and Moroccan inspired art every you look. The property has become priceless to Tim after both of his daughters were born on the property.
Blaine Francin, the original owner, added the second floor and gave the home it’s special and unique Moroccan design. Building the home was a 10-year process with 3 people working full time. The castle was reverse built, custom creating spaces that were built around pieces of the home. The claw foot bathtub in the upstairs bath and many of the other furniture was brought in and the walls were erected around creating the space that exists today.
When Tim moved in the first floor was fairly empty and dirty with leaves blowing in. He embraced the style and began collecting furniture and art pieces from all over the world and locally that immaculately matched the vibe and stayed copacetic with the theme.
Hidden behind walls of ivy and a golden gate on busy Fairfax Ave., no one would assume that behind leads to an open courtyard with a wall fountain and Moroccan themed castle with immense breathtaking detail.
Beautiful intricate tile covers the home and layers of stone cover the dry wall.
The main downstairs bedroom can double as a ball room when the bed is removed and has two gold dancing poles from floor to ceiling.
Tim’s favorite room in the house is the primary bedroom on the second floor. It has an amazing rotunda of wood in a circular inlay that you can sleep under. Light peeps through with the moon overhead and gives a beautiful unique experience. A secret door from the inside of this primary bedroom’s closet leads you to roof access.
Experiencing the detail of this home from day to night allows for lighting to play a factor in appreciating detail in new ways.
