Packleader Pet Trackers

Cumberland, Rhode Island

The founder of Packleader PetTrackers, Jamie combines an extraordinary background in human search and rescue, private investigation, professional dog training, land navigation, surveillance, and wildlife tracking to recover missing pets in some of the most difficult conditions imaginable. Before launching his company, he trained search dogs to locate missing people and worked for eight years as a private investigator, developing the investigative instincts that now define his approach to pet recovery. Unlike many lost pet organizations that rely primarily on flyers and volunteers, Jamie treats every missing animal as a real investigation. Whether the case begins in a quiet suburban neighborhood, a dense forest, or the middle of a busy city, he follows the evidence, studies animal behavior, and pieces together every clue until he has an answer.

Every case begins with a frantic phone call from an owner whose beloved pet has disappeared. Jamie immediately begins gathering information about how the animal escaped, how long it has been missing, and what search efforts have already taken place before determining the best strategy. Sometimes his advice over the phone is enough to bring a pet home. Other times he deploys one of his highly trained scent dogs, thermal drones, trail cameras, cellular cameras, and humane traps to begin a full scale search. His dogs are among the few in the country trained to work completely off leash, allowing them to switch naturally between ground tracking and air scenting as they follow a missing animal across miles of changing terrain. Jamie estimates that when he is called within the first several days of a disappearance, his tracking dogs are successful in locating the missing pet in more than ninety percent of cases.

One of the most surprising aspects of Jamie's work is the hidden world of stolen pets. While many owners initially believe their dog simply escaped, some cases reveal evidence that the animal was intentionally taken. According to Jamie, there are several motivations behind pet theft. Some individuals steal dogs in hopes of collecting reward money once the owner becomes desperate enough to offer a cash incentive. Others are interested in valuable purebred dogs that can be used for breeding or sold for significant profit, sometimes transporting the animals across state lines before they can be identified or recovered. Jamie has also encountered situations involving rescue organizations that, in his experience, believe the original owner is no longer fit to keep the dog and attempt to reclaim or rehome the animal, collecting adoption fees or other financial benefits in the process. These cases often become far more than a simple search for a missing pet. They evolve into complex investigations involving surveillance, evidence gathering, suspicious individuals, and a race against time before the animal disappears for good. Some of these rescues have even threatened Jamie’s life as well as allegedly poisoning one of his trained tracking dogs.

Jamie's mobile command vehicle is equipped for virtually any scenario. Inside is an arsenal of professional equipment including thermal drones capable of locating heat signatures in complete darkness, powerful zoom cameras, satellite connected communications, battery systems, trail cameras, spotlights, and specialized search gear. Yet despite all of the technology at his disposal, Jamie will tell you that his greatest partners are his dogs. Raised from puppies and trained specifically for this work, they are at the center of every investigation and possess an extraordinary ability to locate animals that would otherwise remain invisible. Whether searching remote wilderness, abandoned industrial sites, frozen wetlands, or crowded urban neighborhoods, Jamie and his canine partners are willing to go wherever the trail leads.

What makes Jamie so compelling is that every search carries genuine stakes. He never knows whether he is walking into a straightforward recovery, a dangerous wilderness search, or a case involving suspicious people determined to keep a pet hidden. The terrain can be unforgiving, the weather relentless, and the human element completely unpredictable. Yet Jamie continues because of the powerful bond between people and their pets and the unforgettable moment when a family is finally reunited with an animal they feared they would never see again.
