Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?

Ana and Romeo met in high school circa 2013. He was the popular, smooth talking Don-Juan of their high school who could get the attention of most any girl. Despite his reputation as a player, Ana went hard and fast for what she wanted and she insisted they go on a date. The two hit it off and they ended up dating on and off for the next five years. They were even engaged at one point in their relationship. Romeo, however, wasn’t a relationship sort of person. He was arrogant, young and careless. He ended up having multiple affairs throughout the course of their relationship. But, the couple shared an amazing chemistry and sexual compatibility, so Ana kept taking Romeo back. Their relationship was filled with drama, multiple breakups and reconciliations. But enough is enough, and Ana had to call it quits with Romeo for good. She ended their relationship and drew a line in the sand and didn’t speak to him for years after.

Enter her knight in shining armor: Izzy. Ana met the hard-headed but lovable Izzy through mutual friends. They were oil and water on first encounter, but they realized that they both admired one another’s tough exterior and within several hours became inseparable. Izzy fell hard for the beautiful Ana and doted on her hand and foot. He even took his life in his hands by teaching her to drive. Under the cover of an umbrella in the rain, the couple shared their first kiss and the rest is history. Ana eventually confessed to Izzy that she always imagined marrying a man as “caring & perfect” as him.

In 2019, Izzy and Ana began their relationship and he even stepped up to plate as a father figure to her son. They soon got engaged and recently had a child of their own together. They are expected to marry in the Summer of 2022.

While Ana paints a portrait of their relationship as a fairy tale, Izzy struggles with Ana’s friendship with Romeo, who recently re-entered Ana’s life. This past January, after years of no communication, Ana reached back out to Romeo to wish him Happy Birthday. To Ana, she opened the door to a beautiful friendship, but to Izzy, she opened Pandora’s box.

Ana and Romeo are right back where they were as flirtatious teenagers. Talking every day. Hanging out at the mall. Going to happy hour together. She even brings Romeo to buy clothing for Izzy! Romeo is an aspiring boxer so he invites Ana to come watch him in the ring or at his training… when he’s shirtless and sweaty with a six pack… Ana admits that Romeo understands her in a way that Izzy doesn’t. She can be her complete self around him. Romeo is happy to have Ana back in his life. To him, she’s a true friend and confidant. Today, Romeo states that he is a much more mature person. He works with at risk youth and he is no longer the selfish, arrogant man who cheated on her all those years ago.

However, friends and family are extremely skeptical of the situation. Those close to Romeo know him to be a player. The consensus is: now that Ana re-opened the door, Romeo is a fox in the hen house, and he’s going to do whatever he can to get Ana back in bed, or more.

As Romeo is slowly prying his way back into Ana’s life, Izzy is faced with the uncertainty of their relationship. Ana turns to Romeo in times of need and Izzy is furious about their friendship. Izzy does not want him to be a part of her or their life. He has been cheated on in the past and he’s triggered by these patterns and behaviors. What’s worse is that Ana isn’t upfront and straight forward about when or where she spends time with Romeo. Because she knows he’ll get upset, she simply doesn’t tell him. Izzy loves Ana with all his heart and he wants to respect her wishes but everything in him tells him not to trust the boxing Romeo.

The tension is high and the drama is real as Ana navigates her special relationship with her ex Romeo and a future with a very real relationship with Izzy. Izzy wants to marry her, but he’s already stated that in order for them to have a bright future, that they need to sort out their issues with Romeo. And as for Romeo, is it really, “once a player, always a player?” Or has this tiger really changed his stripes and their friendship is 100% platonic?
