ARYN AND LUIS
GALVESTON, TX

• Aryn met Luis, aka “Pepe” while working at a restaurant in Galveston. They immediately bonded over shared love of music, they became intimate at the end of March/April of 2023. Aryn soon suggested that they get married and Pepe agreed. They were married in June of 2023.

• They were head over heels, spending no more than 1 or 2 days apart throughout the entire relationship because they lived together, worked together and had become business partners.

• The last time Aryn saw Pepe was Dec 3rd, 2022 when they hosted a retail pop-up shop at an outdoor flea market. Tensions were high due to the stress of preparing for the event but they sold a number of items and Aryn and Pepe celebrated with drinks. However, one drink lead to another which lead to a physical altercation between the two. It was so bad that Pepe bit a chunk out of Aryn’s ear. The police were called. Aryn was taken to the hospital and Pepe fled. That was the last time that they have seen each other or been in contact with one another.

• Pepe came to the United States under the J1 Visa. At the time Aryn didn’t think that Pepe wanted to get married for citizenship, but now that Pepe has fled, he’s not so sure…

• After Aryn went to the hospital, Aryn is unsure where or what Pepe did. He didn’t come back for his things and he didn’t return to his family. However, Aryn was able to get access to text messages between Pepe and his family that were in Spanish. Aryn had a friend translate the texts from Spanish into English. The messages were all under the theme of Pepe’s family asking Pepe when he was going to get Aryn to get them papers to enter the United States. Aryn is currently wondering: was he being used for citizenship or was Pepe truly in love with him?

• Pepe’s sister told Aryn that Pepe returned to Ecuador to start fresh, but Aryn doesn’t believe her. Aryn was able to see that Pepe logged into his social media from a town in Arizona, Aryn suspects Arizona, but he isn’t sure where he is. Pepe no longer has his cell phone so Aryn can’t call him. He can’t get ahold of any mutual friends and clearly the family is lying to Aryn. Aryn also knows that many of the people that Pepe was friends with who also had J1 visa’s moved to Arizona to find other work opportunities. The best working theory is Arizona.

• Aryn and Pepe’s finances are completely intertwined with shared bank accounts and even shared insurance. Aryn is unable to remove Pepe from anything unless he can get a signature from Pepe or produce divorce papers. Naturally, Aryn can’t do either at the moment without communicating with Pepe.

• Aryn seeks closure to resolve financial issues, but also for his own healing. He hopes to have one-on-one time with Pepe because he wants to get the “real story” without Pepe’s family’s influence over him.
