Desert Castle Compound
Homeowner: Ryan Carrillo & Luke Prusinski
Occupation: Professional Roller Skater & Wardrobe Stylist
Home Location: Joshua Tree, CA
Ever heard of a home with a roller rink in it? Well, Luke and Ryan built one. The couple was living in Los Angeles, planning to buy a house but unable to find anything in their price range. They decided to look in Palm Springs and found a house with two castle towers that was inspirational, astounding and right out of a fairy tale. Reminding him of South Africa, Luke instantly fell in love with the place, but Ryan needed some convincing. Luke was able to convince Ryan by explaining to him that this could be a home that would reflect their inner personalities. After they purchased it, they began adding their own personal touches to it. They brought in 95 palm trees to line the driveway between the towers and the main house space, creating their “palmbiance.” Luke brought in personalized art to accentuate it’s spaces. And to make Ryan feel at home, Luke created a roller rink/night club space for his rolling skater partner.
The castle home estate has become a legend in the Joshua Tree community. Daily, they have people coming up to their home just to see what it is and to take pictures. It has hosted parties, community events and weddings as well as being a place where Luke and Ryan celebrate with their friends. The reaction from people who visit is one of pure joy. It’s like the fairy tale version of a magical oasis come to life.
Features two white guard towers that are fully equipped living spaces
Though the towers were built prior to Ryan and Luke’s arrival, they added a lot of elements to the homestead to make it their own:
95 Palm trees were brought in to line the drive between the guard towers and main house
Luke built a roller rink/night club in one of the main spaces
There are two container homes also on the property that are fully functional living spaces
Most of the art brought in by Luke was specifically made by artists for the home including the rugs, art and woodworking.
At night, there are thousands of lights that bring the property to life making it a beacon in the heart of the Joshua Tree’s desert community.
