Cristy and Michael are a newly engaged couple who have plans to wed on the front lawn of their new (old) home in June 2020. The duo both grew up in historic homes and bonded over their dream of buying a historical home to restore together.
The couple closed on the home in September 2018. Cristy says that she thought they would be much further along with their house from where they started a year ago. The couple does 99% of the work themselves and as with many restoration projects, they have hit a lot of delays and roadblocks along the way.
When they purchased the home, it had sat vacant for ten years prior. So now they are dealing with the aftermath of a decade of neglect…which is no pretty sight!
The couple considers the home only, “fairly livable.” The majority of the home is a construction zone and they are confined to one half of the first floor of the house.
Scratched flooring, abandoned rooms, exposed electrical and even animals living in the walls are all part of the unglamorous life of restoring their historic house.
You shower where?! They renovated one of the bathrooms complete with a claw foot tub. Then they realized that there wasn’t a working shower anywhere in the house, so they put in a temporary shower stall in the basement. Unfortunately, they have to go into a dark, cold basement, put on shower sandals and cleanup in a makeshift plastic shower every time they want to get ready for the day. They’re sick of it!
Master Bedroom- The room is currently in complete disrepair. The floors need to be redone and there is chipping paint that needs to be handled. Michael wants to knock down walls to expand the size of the master suite. The couple are currently living in their downstairs parlor, so getting this room complete is high on their priority list.
Master Bathroom- The master bathroom is the size of a small closet. Michael says he can barely stand up straight and without hitting his head! They want to create an en-suite master bathroom complete with an enclosed shower, soaking tub and his & her vanities.
