The Weimer family is a close-knit family of type-A, ambitious entrepreneurs who all work together. Mom and Dad were young newlyweds when they decided to start a construction company. Over the years the company grew and grew and eventually became quite successful. Dave decided to diversify his businesses and began purchasing car dealerships. Today, the family owns six car dealerships in the Maryland area, and they all work together owning and managing each of the dealerships. On paper, it’s the American “rags to riches” dream; the only problem is that everyone in the family is extremely different, which makes living and working together really tough…
Dad, Dave, is conservative and old school. He likes to say things for “shock value.” He loves talking politics with strangers. He’s described by his family as an obsessive contrarian, but ultimately a very smart and savvy business man. Mom, Kristen, is caring, blunt, active and the glue that holds the family together. Her ideal day would be a morning Pilates class, shopping, and eating out for lunch. Brady is the mild-mannered youngest brother. He’s passionate about competing in BMX, and is an accomplished athlete. He’s book smart, sweet and sensitive, and doesn’t handle confrontation or stress well. And lastly, Tyler, the middle brother, is sitting squarely in the shadow of his older brother Austen. Everyone in the family agrees that Austen and Tyler are the most opposite of one another…
The list of their opposites goes on and on: Austen is gay and Tyler is straight. Austen is pale and skinny and doesn’t care about health, he loves Taco Bell and pizza, but obessesed with appearances (fillers, Botox, tummy tucks, etc.) Tyler is tan, handsome and a health and fitness gym rat. Although they’re both 5’7, Tyler is 30 lbs heavier (all muscle) than his skinny/small brother. Where Tyler is naturally confident in his appearance, Austen has had multiple cosmetic procedures to look his best. Austen is loud, aggressive, manipulative, extremely business motivated, detached from emotions and condescending. Tyler, is the opposite. He is sweet, caring, everyone’s best friend. He’s compassionate and in touch with his emotions.
Austen has a Machiavellian approach to work and life. He’s cutthroat, cunning and ruthless. He admittedly has little regard for adhering to moral or ethical standards when it comes to business or to social practices. At work, Austen would fire someone if they weren’t hitting a numerical quota without a pang of emotional regret. In relationships, Austen has an extremely difficult time accessing his emotions, let alone verbalizing them. He has a hard time with intimacy and vulnerability. In fact, he can’t remember the last time he told his mother he loved her, and in living memory, he thinks the last time he gave his brother a hug was when they were six years old.
Tyler on the other hand, is the opposite of his older brother. Tyler takes his time in business, never steam rolling anyone and always trying to find a holistic solution. Austen is cutthroat and black and white. Tyler has a big social group and at work, he’s developed meaningful relationships with his employees. He is the first person to ask how someone’s day is. Tyler has a soft spot for people and animals. In fact, he has four pets just on his own! Austen on the other hand loves materialistic things and wants to be flashy and glamourous, hence Austen’s collection of Louis Vuitton bags. Tyler is simple, humble and one day wants to retire in a country house with his girlfriend and animals.
But as different as these brothers are they have to be in each other’s lives… That is IF they want to remain working at the family business. They have to see and work with each other every day. They both hold similar positions at the company so neither will pull rank, but they have to manage the company together and make important decisions together. Working together is a major source of conflict for these two. Both are stubborn and think that they are right. There’s also a major element of ego and competition. They each think that they are the smartest person in the room and they each think that they have the better work ethic. If either of them think that they are being slighted, questioned or made to feel “less than,” it’s all-out war. And these brothers mean WAR!
Austen can be downright cruel when it comes to fights. He’ll go for personal attacks that hit below the belt, often insulting Tyler or Tyler’s girlfriend. Tyler isn’t always quick to fight back (although he definitely does and things get heated) Tyler will always find a way to “get even,” which is even scarier… Like the time Tyler took unflattering photos of Austen, made a fake Instagram account and posted the photos and followed everyone in their high school. Yes, these brothers take escalating, sibling rivalry to the next level… But as long as they want to make the type of money they’re making (and they’re doing VERY well financially) they have to stay in each other’s lives.
Austen has a boyfriend named Coleman who lives in Kansas City. Austen lives Thursday-Sunday in Kansas City and the rest of the time he lives at home with his mom, dad and youngest brother Brady. Tyler lives just down the road from the family, with his girlfriend of three years, Ashylyn.
The business empire continues to grow. Currently, Tyler is navigating the acquisition of a new dealership to bring into the family’s portfolio. Austen is helping his brother to shepherd the deal. Tyler and Austen are both supposed to be making the same amount of money, but Tyler recently discovered that Austen had started paying himself more without his father’s knowledge or consent. Austen doesn’t know that Tyler has the information, and Tyler is waiting for the right moment to let his dad know and use the information against his brother. Brady will be joining the family business this fall and will start working with his brothers. Brady has the most even temperament of the brothers but that’s for now. Brady has unequivocally stated that he wants to take over the business one day. Austen thinks that he would be the best suited to run the family business, and not surprisingly Tyler thinks that it should be him. The season will see the brothers compete, play games of cat and mouse and do their best to win the good graces of their father in order to achieve power and prestige in the family.
