Three Against One

Back in the early 2000s Alexis and Aleesha were both in love with the same guy from High School named Josh. He was handsome, athletic and knew all the right things to say to the girls. Much to Alexis’ chagrin, Josh chose Aleesha and the two dated throughout most of high school. The two were seemingly well on their way to living happily ever after together, but the moment high school ended, so did their relationship. As their relationship started cooling off a little, Josh started cheating on Aleesha with Alexis. Josh never officially broke up with Aleesha, he just kept her in his back pocket while he started a new relationship with Alexis. (He’s not super proud of this…but he admits he was young and dumb!) Aleesha stuck with Josh hoping they could repair their waning relationship.

In the meantime, Alexis’ patience paid off and she was finally with the man of her dreams. She didn’t know that Josh was still involved with Aleesha… but that soon changed when she was delivered a punch in the gut. Just a few months into Josh and Alexis dating, Aleesha learned that she was pregnant with Josh’s child. Alexis was livid and overwhelmed with betrayal and jealously. But as devastated as she was, she wasn’t leaving her man! Alexis wanted a family with Josh and she certainly didn’t want Aleesha to be the one to take Josh away from her. Eventually Josh did choose Alexis, and when Aleesha and Josh’s child was born, Alexis became a stepmom, or as the group calls it a “bonus mom.”  Soon after having the baby, despite her still having feeling for Josh, Aleesha met Kyle at a party, they started dating, and are still together to this day.

Alexis and Josh and Aleesha and Kyle are all extremely involved in each other’s lives. Six of seven of their kids attend the same school. They live seven minutes apart. They do everything together, including going on family trips and participating in daily after-school plans together. They even share similar personality and relationship dynamics, although flip-flopped by gender: Alexis and Kyle are the alphas, while Josh and Aleesha are the betas. Alexis and Kyle frequently butt heads when they disagree on something, which is the cause of their nicknames: Alexis’ is “Fiona” like the feisty character in Shrek and Kyle is “The Hulk” like… the Hulk.

Josh, Alexis and Aleesha all agree that the majority of their issues all come from Kyle. He’s loud, opinionated and has to be right about everything. From the way they raise their children, to where they go on vacation to the way food is prepared, Kyle is a big complaining, know-it-all man-baby. Josh and Alexis love Aleesha, they just don’t love her husband who inevitably causes drama. It’s usually the three, Alexis, Josh and Aleesha getting along, and Kyle is the outlier. Where Josh is passive and does his best not to rock the boat Alexis has zero tolerance for Kyle’s B.S. She’ll call him out and get into heated arguments. Like a pair of spitfire siblings, Alexis and Kyle go at it, fighting loudly and aggressively with one another.

On top of that, these parents are struggling to raise seven children between them. They have to get along for the sake of the kids, which they do for the most part, but it’s not always easy with so many different personalities and perspectives. Aleesha and Alexis confide in one another for support, usually dismantling the complications of their own romantic relationships.

Aleesha contends that she loves her husband Kyle but Alexis isn’t so sure. Alexis sees the chink in the armor of her friend’s marriage. To Alexis, Aleesha is an angel of a person who deserves more than what Kyle can provide. She isn’t convinced that Kyle and Aleesha are a good match. Both Alexis and Josh want Aleesha to be happy, but they aren’t sure if Kyle is the person for her. It simply remains to be seen: Will Kyle get on board and grow up with the other three parents or will he continue to drive a wedge and further divide their untraditional family?
