Home Location: West Los Angeles
Eric and Rhonda are kindred creative spirits. She’s an Art Center, Art-School graduate who’s been an artist and homemaker her entire life and Eric is a Creative Director who works for major brands such as Netflix, Lego, etc. Together they share a whimsical, fun and lighthearted approach to life, style, art and design. They purchased their West Side LA home in 1992 and raised three daughter in its humble and cozy interior. As many families do, they accumulated so much STUFF that they were bursting at the seams. In an effort to both create a functional space for their family and to purge unnecessary kitsch, they decided to give their home a new life. And boy did they! They sought the expertise of infamous star architect Neil M Denari who’s designed massive, avant-garde commercial projects. Neil had carte blanche and the family went along for the two-year remodel ride in 2007. The result? A pink and orange piece of living art. When visiting the ultra-modern space, it’s hard to believe that this was once a humble home from the 1940’s. Eric and Rhonda are stewards of the property’s past as well as visionaries for its future. They have made certain that the Alan-Voo house will survive for another 100 years, and perhaps grow and evolve over time! They are beyond proud to have made their house a living and breathing piece of art.
The backyard exterior façade is the jaw-dropping feature of the home. It features unmistakably loud orange and pink stripes that extend from the exterior traveling into the interior of the home.
Rhonda’s studio is a colorful collection of her bright, modern art. It’s also where she houses her “ice-cream” shoes that she’s famous for. Her ice cream shoes are flashy boots that have silicone ice cream sculptures on the toe. It’s wearable art that our hosts might be interested in trying on! Cher and Elton John own a pair!
The “moon sculpture” is a can’t miss fixture of their home. It started as a hanging prop for a blow-out birthday for Rhonda. It was originally a prop for guests to pose on during photoshoots. Then it was converted into a lamp that hung in their living room for years. Now it’s an outdoor sculpture. Eric did mention that it could easily be brought inside for our hosts to pose with for a photoshoot!
The floating staircase is a showstopper perfect for making a dramatic entrance.
Eric and Rhonda have numerous pieces of designer European furniture that is all modern, unusual and chic.
