70’s Retro Chic!

Homeowner: Greg Sanchez & Jona Shia (Friend)

Occupation: Greg: Landscaper, Jona: Clothing Designer

Home Location: palm springs

When Greg was home shopping with his best friend Jona he discovered his dream house without expecting it. He was smitten at first sight: it felt like a home trapped in time, a blast from another era.  From the very first step he fell in love and knew he had to live here. With wallpaper that matched the furniture, a sunken bar and mirrors everywhere, Greg was transported to another place and time.  A landscaper by trade, Greg is skilled at exterior design, so to find a home with an interior style that matched his aesthetic was a dream come true.  Although he doesn’t live with Greg, Jona has been integral helping his friend to add personal touches to the home, giving him guidance on art pieces and home items that they have picked out together from flea markets and estate sales. With Jona as his design partner in crime, Greg has found the perfect elements to take this home to the next level.

While some people would renovate and redesign a home with such “dated” style, Greg feels the opposite. He has leaned into the home’s quirky character and has championed its uniqueness. His friends love hanging out in the space because it makes them feel like they are escaping their normal lives and traveling to another place and time.

  • Greg’s house is a 2,200 square foot home in Palm Springs with 2 bedrooms and 3 baths.

  • The house interior design comes from the original owners who went into incredible care to design every single detail with exquisite precision. Greg and Jona have added their own unique flair and touches to the home over the years.

  • In the bedrooms, the wallpaper is the same design as the fabric on the furniture, including the chairs and the bedsheets.

  • The home has a classic baby grand piano that looks like it has been transported from the crooner days of Palm Springs.

  • Greg’s favorite piece is the pink bar stool chairs that match the wallpaper around the bar.

  • There is  a step-down bar out of the 70s, and a round circular couch adjacent to it for sitting and enjoying your drink.

  • There are mirrors covering every part of the house, including walls, ceilings and places you would never expect to see them.
